The U.S. Navy amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay introduced a fresh fruit and vegetable vending machine during a grand opening event held on its barge in San Diego, according to a post on the website of the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service.

The initiative is part of efforts to improve access to healthier food options for personnel while the ship operates in the U.S. 3rd Fleet area of operations and undergoes a maintenance availability period.

The vessel, which supports amphibious warfare and humanitarian missions, carries about 400 sailors and officers and can embark up to 800 Marines. Officials said the addition of fresh food vending aligns with broader efforts to enhance quality of life and nutrition for service members during deployments and operational readiness periods.
