A dairy farm near Barrow, England, has applied for planning permission to install a self-service milk vending hut that would allow customers to purchase fresh pasteurized milk produced on the farm, according to a report in the British news outlet The Mail.
The proposal submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council calls for a small timber-framed building housing two vending machines at Robbs Water Farm, a 60-hectare dairy and sheep operation that milks about 120 cows.
The vending hut would be located near the farm's entrance along the A590, enabling customers to access the machines without entering the working farmyard. Plans also include a 10-space parking area designed to allow vehicles to enter and exit safely from the busy rural roadway. According to planning documents, the site layout is intended to maintain clear visibility and minimize impacts on farm operations and the surrounding landscape.
Farm owner Simon Case told the news outlet the project is part of a broader diversification strategy to strengthen the business. The vending machines would dispense about 500 liters of milk each week, providing a direct-to-consumer sales channel while supporting local food production, reducing transportation distances and offering a convenient option for nearby residents and motorists traveling along the A590.
