Norway-based technology company Tomra has introduced its Insight Analytics Suite as a digital management platform designed to help retailers and operators improve the performance of reverse vending machine networks, according to an Ad Hoc News report. The software aggregates data from connected machines and displays information such as fill levels, transaction volumes, error alerts and potential fraud indicators through centralized dashboards. The goal is to help operators monitor deposit-return programs more effectively and address issues before they affect customers.

Reverse vending is widespread in Europe because many countries have adopted deposit return systems for beverage containers.

Tomra's platform shifts reverse vending operations from a reactive approach to a more proactive one. Rather than waiting for machines to fail or become full, store managers can receive real-time alerts and use performance data to schedule maintenance, dispatch staff and manage capacity. Tomra says the approach can reduce downtime, minimize customer frustration and help retailers avoid lost deposit returns caused by out-of-service equipment.

The analytics suite also reflects Tomra's broader strategy of expanding beyond hardware into recurring digital services. In addition to supporting machine uptime and operational efficiency, the platform offers multi-site reporting and fleet-wide visibility for regional and national retailers. By combining reverse vending equipment with software and data services, Tomra aims to provide customers with deeper operational insights while creating new subscription-based revenue opportunities tied to its installed machine base.
