Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corp. will begin operating ticket vending machines Oct. 30 at stations along active metro routes in Bhopal and Indore, India, The Hitavada reported. Two machines have been installed at each station, allowing passengers to purchase tickets independently in about 30 seconds.
Passengers select the QR ticket option, choose a destination and review the fare before paying through India's Unified Payments Interface, or UPI. They scan a payment code displayed on the screen using a compatible app and collect their ticket once the transaction is completed.
The machines include Braille features to assist passengers with visual impairments. Riders can also continue buying tickets through the transit agency's mobile app or staffed station counters, with digital payment options including UPI and electronic wallets.
