Transaction Network Services has debuted Bring Your Own App, a feature allowing operators to develop customer-facing applications for its Android payment terminals while TNS manages payment processing, security compliance and certification, according to a press release.
The capability supports unattended, retail and fuel payment terminals.
Operators' apps connect to TNS's payment software through an application programming interface to initiate transactions. TNS handles card data collection, PIN entry, encryption and chip-card processing. Each operator-developed app must receive TNS approval and a digital signature before running on a terminal.
The system also separates payment processor security keys from terminal keys, allowing operators to change payment processors or revise rates without updating physical terminals, the company said in the release. TNS said the approach gives businesses more control over their customer experience while reducing the technical work associated with managing payments.
