Nigeria-based digital payments company Interswitch has launched a digital ticket vending platform aimed at modernizing that country's interstate transportation sector by replacing manual ticketing and cash-based systems with a centralized digital solution, according to a BusinessPost report.
The platform enables travelers to purchase tickets through web, mobile and point-of-sale channels, using secure digital tokens that are validated at boarding points to reduce fraud and operational inefficiencies.
The system also functions as an operational management platform for transport operators, particularly small and medium-sized businesses. Operators can create and manage routes, monitor terminal activities, track ticket sales and access real-time business insights from a single dashboard.
The platform introduces a marketplace model that allows travelers to compare transport options by route, schedule and pricing across multiple operators. It also supports bulk ticket purchases for businesses and institutions managing employee travel. Interswitch said the system could also benefit regulators by providing structured transportation data to improve oversight, licensing and consumer protection.
