Exchange for Change has published its first list of certified reverse vending machines ahead of the deposit return scheme's scheduled launch Oct. 1, 2027, according to a Green Retail World report. The initial list includes models from Tomra, RVM Systems, EcoVend, Recyclever, Envipco, Sielaff and Ripet, giving retailers a reference when evaluating equipment purchases or leases.

Certification assesses machines against 77 requirements, including container recognition, fraud prevention, accessibility, connections to scheme systems and transaction data security. Additional models can undergo assessment, and the approved list will expand as equipment completes certification.

Exchange for Change also released guidance covering machine branding, signs and customer instructions to help shoppers identify return points and reclaim their deposits of 20 pence, or about 27 cents. The organization's retailer preparations also include information about return point exemptions and grants to help eligible small independent retailers buy machines.
