Netherlands-based Envipco Holding N.V. has signed a final agreement with Iceland Foods to supply approximately 1,500 reverse vending machines across the United Kingdom ahead of the country's planned Deposit Return Scheme launch in October 2027, according to a press release. The deal follows a preliminary announcement made in March and includes ongoing service support for all machines. Deliveries are expected to begin in spring 2027.
Iceland Foods operates more than 950 stores across the U.K.
Envipco said its compact reverse vending machines are designed for smaller retail locations with limited floor space, making them a fit for Iceland Foods stores. The company described the UK Deposit Return Scheme market as a major growth opportunity and said it has been expanding operations from its Warrington offices to support retailers preparing for the nationwide rollout. Iceland Foods said the machines will help customers recycle beverage containers more easily as part of everyday shopping.
The UK Deposit Return Scheme will cover PET bottles and aluminum and steel cans up to three liters, each carrying a deposit of about 27 cents. The system aims to collect 90% of the estimated 26 billion beverage containers sold annually in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Industry plans call for roughly 35,000 reverse vending machines nationwide, making the program one of the world's largest deposit return systems when it launches.
