Wausau Family Pharmacy in Wisconsin is adding a prescription pickup kiosk that will allow customers to retrieve medications around the clock, according to a WAOW report. The self-service system is intended to give patients greater flexibility by allowing them to pick up prescriptions outside the independent pharmacy's regular business hours.

The kiosk will function similarly to other automated pickup systems, with prescriptions prepared by pharmacy employees before being placed in the secure unit for collection. Customers can then retrieve their medications without waiting for the pharmacy counter to open, extending access to prescriptions during evenings, overnight hours and other times when the pharmacy is closed.

The installation reflects a broader move toward self-service technology in health care, particularly as pharmacies look for ways to improve convenience while allowing employees to concentrate on other responsibilities during operating hours. The kiosk does not replace the pharmacy's staff or prescription preparation process; instead, it extends the pickup portion of the service to 24 hours a day.
