Vending machines are a key part of a newly renovated intercity bus terminal in Philadelphia, offering travelers food, drinks and travel essentials as the facility reopens after years of curbside operations, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report. The first bus is scheduled to arrive early Friday, marking the return of indoor service at the former Greyhound station at 10th and Filbert Streets, now renamed the Philadelphia Parking Authority Transportation Center.

The $5 million renovation adds a waiting room with nearly 200 seats, restrooms, ticket counters and space for bus drivers, along with improved lighting and a more open design. The site includes 11 bus bays and replaces temporary curbside pickup locations that had been used since the previous station closed. Some limited curbside service will continue briefly at another location as the transition is completed.

City officials pushed to reopen the station ahead of major upcoming events, including World Cup matches and the nation's 250th anniversary. The transportation center will operate under a long-term lease while leaders continue to search for a permanent bus terminal, with the current site expected to serve riders for at least the next decade.
