Germany's Munich Transport Company is updating its ticket vending machines to simplify the ticket purchasing process and reduce validation errors, according to a press release. Beginning June 24, customers purchasing single tickets, day tickets and connecting tickets can choose during checkout whether a ticket should be issued as immediately valid or remain unvalidated for later use. The options are displayed clearly on the screen, making it easier for riders to select the appropriate ticket type for their travel plans.

Under the new system, the default setting will be "already validated," reflecting the most common customer preference throughout the Munich transport network. Riders who plan to use a ticket later can switch to the "not yet validated" option and stamp the ticket before travel. MVG said the change will help standardize ticketing practices across the Munich Transport and Tariff Association region while reducing mistakes associated with ticket validation. Mobile ticket machines installed on vehicles will continue to issue tickets that are already validated.
