A miniature art vending machine inside Inkwell Booksellers in Minneapolis is helping artists reach new audiences while generating income from their work, according to a CBS News report. Created by local artist Lilyan Lauzon, also known as OneTiredArtist, the $1 Mini Art Vending Machine was designed to give emerging and underrepresented artists an affordable way to showcase and sell their creations without the costs often associated with galleries and markets.
The vending machine allows customers to purchase original artwork for $1, with participating artists keeping the entire proceeds from each sale. Since its launch in October, the machine has featured work from more than 80 artists and dispensed nearly 3,000 pieces of art. Lauzon refreshes the inventory each month, providing a rotating platform for local creative talent.
Beyond generating sales, the project has helped artists gain visibility and attract new opportunities. According to Lauzon, some participants have reported increased traffic to their art fairs after customers discovered their work through the machine, while others have secured larger commissioned projects. Lauzon said she hopes to add a second vending machine and expand the concept to another location.
