Mystry Mart, an art-focused vending machine concept that dispenses original works from emerging artists, has launched a summer installation in Coney Island, according to a Time Out New York report. Founded by Victoria Orlovskaya and Gene Bell, the project transforms vending machines into interactive galleries, offering visitors mystery-packaged artwork created by local artists. The latest installation is located at Margarita Island near Surf Avenue and features a rotating selection of artwork from more than 120 participating artists.
At any given time, each machine showcases works from about 20 artists, with offerings ranging from fine-art prints and paintings to ceramics and other unconventional pieces. Customers purchase artwork priced between $10 and $100 without knowing exactly what they will receive. Each item includes a QR code that provides information about the artist and artwork while directing collectors to additional ways to support the local creative community.
The concept was inspired by a trip to Las Vegas and has previously appeared at venues including the Brooklyn Museum, PowerHouse Arts and House of Yes. According to its founders, Mystry Mart was created to give emerging and underrepresented artists greater visibility by placing their work in high-traffic public spaces.
