Research firm Berg Insight estimates there are more than 8 million connected vending machines in operation worldwide in 2025, according to an IoT Business News report.
That number is projected to reach nearly 11.7 million machines by 2030, thanks to advances in digital infrastructure, cashless payments and remote management capabilities.
China and Japan account for the largest share with about 3.3 million connected machines, followed by North America at 2.6 million and Europe at 2.2 million. The market is expected to grow at a 7.6% compound annual rate, with connectivity penetration projected to reach more than three-quarters of all machines globally by the end of the decade.
At the same time, new formats such as touchscreen-enabled machines, digital signage and grab-and-go systems are reshaping the industry, allowing vending machines to function as both retail and media platforms, while smart coolers and micro-market-style solutions are gaining traction. As a result, future growth is expected to depend less on upgrading legacy machines and more on deploying new, platform-driven systems.
