Cities across China are deploying AI-powered robotic barber kiosks that use 3D scanning and robotic cutting technology to provide automated haircuts at a low cost, according to a report appearing on the Pakistani news site The Truth International.

The kiosks scan a customer's head, analyze hair density and preferred styles, and then use robotic arms equipped with trimming tools to perform the haircut with millimeter-level precision. Developers say the systems are designed to deliver consistent results while reducing labor costs.

The technology reflects China's broader push to expand artificial intelligence and automation into consumer services and smart city infrastructure. Similar AI-driven systems are already appearing in food preparation, automated retail and delivery services.

Supporters of the robotic barber systems cite advantages including lower prices, 24/7 availability, shorter wait times and scalable deployment in densely populated urban areas. Safety features reportedly include emergency stop functions, motion sensors and automated sanitization cycles between users.

Despite the interest surrounding the kiosks, the technology still faces challenges, including limited hairstyle customization, equipment maintenance and public trust in automated grooming services.
