Two Brigham Young University–Idaho students have launched "The Date Machine," a vending machine in Rexburg, Idaho, that dispenses curated date kits designed to make dating more creative and accessible. Each kit includes a ready-to-use activity, icebreaker questions and a complimentary dessert or dinner from a local business.
The creators said the goal is to simplify planning while encouraging more imaginative date experiences, according to a Local 8 News report.
The machine, located in the lobby of the Cedars at Hemming Village student housing complex, features a wide range of themed date ideas, from spa nights and fancy dinners to treasure hunts, cooking challenges and playful concepts like fake proposals.
Co-creators Donovan Strader and Carter Felt said response has been strong, with more than 200 date kits sold so far. Customer feedback has been positive, with users describing the dates as engaging and memorable. While the concept resonates strongly with students, the creators emphasize that the Date Machine is open to everyone.
