Britain's first vending machine dedicated to serving hot chips — French fries to Americans — has launched in Wrexham city center, according to areport in The Mirror. Developed by Captain Chip, the machine dispenses a portion of chips in about 160 seconds for about $4, with options to add salt or ketchup. Company officials said the concept is designed to provide a convenient, hot food option without the need for queuing or staffing.
The installation marks an early rollout of the concept, with additional machines planned for London. Company representatives said early feedback has been positive, positioning Wrexham as a test market for expansion.
Public reaction, however, has been mixed. Some customers questioned the price and quality compared with traditional chip shops, while others welcomed the convenience, particularly outside normal business hours. The launch comes as rising costs have driven up the price of fish and chips across the U.K., adding pressure on traditional operators and reshaping how the staple is sold.
