Seoul launches souvenir vending machines at fall festivals

The Seoul Tourism Organization has introduced its first Seoul Goods vending machines at two fall festival venues, allowing visitors to purchase official city souvenirs on-site, according to a Korea Herald report.

The machines are located at Maeheon Citizen's Forest for the Seoul International Garden Show, which runs through Oct. 27, and Nodeul Island for the Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival, which ends Oct. 11.

Each machine carries about 50 items, including figures, key rings, luggage tags and magnets featuring the Haechi & Soul Friends characters and Seoul My Soul branding. The tourism organization said vending machines provide a retail option for temporary events where limited space and setup time make conventional stores difficult to establish.

Additional machines are scheduled to debut in phases beginning in late October at Seoul Station, Anguk Station and the boarding area for Seouldal, a tethered sightseeing balloon in Yeouido. The Seouldal location will offer merchandise tied to the attraction. Tourism officials said the expansion is intended to make city souvenirs more accessible and reduce shoppers' dependence on store operating hours.
