Genyouth, a nonprofit organization focused on student wellness, has launched the "Super Schools" initiative in the San Francisco Bay Area, according to a press release. The program will provide 60 schools in under-resourced communities with grants for nutrition equipment and NFL FLAG-In-School kits. The goal is to improve nutrition security and physical activity for over 33,000 students. The initiative is a collaborative effort with the San Francisco Unified School District, the Bay Area Host Committee, the 49ers Foundation and corporate partners including PepsiCo.
The program's launch event at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Middle School included a ribbon-cutting for new meal equipment, such as Grab-and-Go carts and insulated milk coolers. Students also participated in a flag football clinic, highlighting the connection between proper nutrition and physical activity.
"The PepsiCo Foundation seeks to ensure that every child in our communities knows where their next meal is coming from," C.D. Glin, president of the PepsiCo Foundation and global head of social impact at PepsiCo, said in the release. "Access to nutritious food is essential in addressing childhood hunger. It fuels physical health, supports cognitive development and enables academic success. By working with trusted partners like Genyouth and local communities, we are focused on creating more equitable access to the nutritious meals children need today while helping to build a healthier, more sustainable future."
