Fifteen-year-old John Freidel has launched Rapid Stop, a company operating AI-powered vending machines in Rapid City, S.D., according to a KOTA-TV report. Unlike traditional vending machines, the units allow customers to tap a card, open the door and take items, with built-in cameras tracking selections and automatically charging users. Freidel said the concept reimagines vending as a more modern, frictionless retail experience.

The Minneluzahan Senior Center in Rapid City was Rapid Stop's first customer, with staff citing ease of use as a key advantage. Freidel said he plans to expand the machines across Rapid City, with a goal of eventually placing units at high-traffic locations such as Rapid City Regional Airport.
