The village of Potsdam, New York, has installed a self-service kayak and canoe rental kiosk at Ives Park, with operations expected to begin after officials resolve issues with the credit card terminal, according to a North Country Now report. The equipment will provide access to watercraft for use on the Raquette River.
Purchased from Outdoor Vending Machines in Muskego, Wisconsin, the approximately $17,000 system can secure up to 12 kayaks or canoes. Customers will use credit cards to rent and return boats, paddles and life jackets without assistance from an on-site employee.
Officials expect the kiosk to expand access to rentals while allowing parks and recreation employees to focus on other responsibilities. The village plans to make the equipment available from sunrise to sunset between April and October. The installation follows other improvements at Ives Park, including a boat storage building, farmers market pavilion and restrooms.
