A new outdoor naloxone vending machine has been installed outside Little Five Points Pharmacy in Atlanta as part of a statewide effort to expand around-the-clock access to the opioid overdose-reversal drug, according to an Atlanta News First report. The machine is stocked with Narcan and fentanyl test strips and was dedicated to Zack Elliott, who died from an opioid overdose in 2011 at age 21. Advocates said the goal is to reduce barriers to obtaining naloxone and ensure people can access the medication quickly during an emergency.

The machine is one of more than 120 naloxone access points tracked through Georgia Overdose Prevention's statewide Naloxone Map, including more than 40 locations offering 24-hour access. The organization estimates that more than 15,000 overdose reversals have been reported through its programs over the past 12 years, though officials believe the actual number is higher.
