Sonoma County, California, is expanding its Health To Go vending machine program with four 24-hour locations in Petaluma, Sonoma Valley, Roseland and Rohnert Park, bringing the total to seven machines.

Designed to resemble traditional vending units, the machines dispense free health and safety supplies, including Narcan, fentanyl test strips, condoms, socks and cable gun locks, with the goal of providing round-the-clock access without cost, paperwork or stigma.

The program, launched just over a year ago, has seen steady growth, according to a Northern California Public Media report, with nearly 13,000 items distributed, including about 2,000 doses of Narcan. County officials said site selection for the new machines was guided by the Healthy Places Index to target areas with higher concentrations of vulnerable populations and greater need for public health resources.

The initiative is supported through a combination of county funding and partnerships with organizations such as the California Department of Public Health and Veterans Affairs. Officials said community interest continues to grow, with additional partnerships under consideration as part of a potential next phase. The county also plans to adjust product offerings based on usage patterns to better meet community needs.
