Wichita, Texas launches Narcan vending machine

Wichita Falls Faith Mission, a nonprofit serving Wichita Falls, Texas's homeless population, has installed a vending machine designed to dispense Narcan, according to a News Channel 6 report.

The Narcan vending machine initiative was funded by a donation from the nonprofit Action Against Opioids and with support from local oral surgeon Dr. Sandra Vergara.

Wichita Falls Police investigated 54 fentanyl overdoses in 2022, resulting in 20 deaths, according to the news report. That number increased to 80 in 2023, resulting in 26 deaths. The quick administration of Narcan can significantly improve the chances of surviving an opioid overdose.
