WASHINGTON, DC -- Shared workspace trailblazer WeWork Cos. has launched Made by We, its own branded coffee shop designed to provide a shared workspace open to the public and its tenants.
The first location of the new coworking space concept is opening at 902 Broadway in Manhattan's Flatiron neighborhood. WeWork tenants and members of the public can reserve up to 100 workspace seats and six meeting rooms by the minute, hour or day.
Australia's Bluestone Lane hospitality company will operate the café and select WeWork member companies will be able to sell their own branded goods onsite.
The new concept is the latest expansion of parent company The We Co.'s extended We universe, which includes WeWork, WeLive (coliving), and WeGrow (schools).
In January, The We Co., valued at $47 billion, secured $2 billion in new funding from Japan's SoftBank.
The new concept adds another player vying to provide refreshment to the workplace consumer, and a distributor to Starbucks and other coffee shops, and even McDonald's McCafe. The shared workspace market represents new locations for OCS operators to serve, but also in this case, new competition. As the market evolves, it's another reminder to operators to think outside the box and emulate their retail competitors to products and services that leave employees little reason to leave the office, or order in a delivery.
