Caws Rhyd y Delyn, an award-winning cheesemaker based on the Isle of Anglesey, Wales, is breaking new ground with the installation of a farm-based cheese vending machine, according to a Wales Online report.
The company, which produces its own cheese "from start to finish" on the farm, recently received planning permission to erect a hut to house the vending machine. Located just off the farm's access track, the machine is expected to be operational by summer and will offer a rotating selection of cheeses depending on current production.
This innovative approach to direct-to-consumer sales is part of an "agricultural diversification scheme" aimed at ensuring the long-term viability of the rural dairy enterprise.
"We believe this vending machine will provide a convenient and accessible way for locals and visitors to purchase our cheeses," Menai Jones, managing director and cheesemaker at Caws Rhyd y Delyn, told the news outlet. "People are increasingly interested in supporting local businesses, and we hope this will encourage them to come directly to the farm."
The vending machine is expected to not only increase sales for the farm but also provide a boost to the local economy by promoting tourism and supporting local businesses.
