LISLE, IL -- A new certification program in the Water Quality Association's Modular Education Program (MEP) is available for point-of-use cooler technicians. It is a prerequisite for WQA's new certification for cooler techs, which is designed to assist companies in this fast-growing cooler segment of the water-treatment industry.

The professional certification exam for cooler technicians will be available by the end of the year, so WQA is encouraging service techs to get started on the new POU program now to be ready to take the exam as soon as it's available.

WQA professional certification and training director Tanya Lubner said members have requested the point-of-use training. It is designed to boost service techs' general knowledge of water treatment and will focus on installation and service issues specific to POU coolers.

"The goal of the program is to raise the level of professionalism among cooler service techs and improve the customer experience," she said. "We believe it will reduce errors and ensure smooth installation and service processes."

Certified water treatment professionals are individuals who have completed a voluntary credentialing process through WQA's Professional Certification Program. To become a WQA certified professional, the candidate must complete the Modular Education training program, pass an exam and accept WQA's Code of Ethics for the Water Quality Improvement Industry.

WQA's program tests and certifies individuals, not dealerships or companies. Certified professionals are typically employed by WQA member companies, but membership is not required for certification.

WQA represents the residential, commercial and industrial water treatment industry. Since 1959, the WQA Gold Seal certification program has been certifying products that contribute to the safe consumption of water. The WQA Gold Seal program is accredited by the American National Standards Institute and the Standards Council of Canada.
