Fans of one of the 200 or so beverages The Coca-Cola Co. has decided to discontinue — Northern Neck Ginger Ale — are petitioning to change the decision to discontinue the brand by year's end, according to a Business Insider report.

The beverage is primarily sold in Virginia's Northern Neck.

Thousands of people, including Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, have signed at least three petitions to keep the beverage.

Northam tweeted he would do everything in his power to keep the drink on shelves. Coca-Cola spokesperson Kate Hartman confirmed the company had heard from the governor, but said it has no plans to change its strategy of removing "zombie brands."
