GREENVILLE, SC -- Tony Cox, a longtime vending operator who established Specialty Trux nearly two decades ago, died here on Oct. 17. He was 74.
Cox attended Western Carolina University (Cullowhee, NC), and subsequently went to work at his father's Tom's Foods distribution business. He then moved to Dayton, OH, and launched his own Tom's operation, which he ran for 27 years.
After relocating to Charleston, SC, Cox started a vending company and became aware of the need for a truck dealership specializing in vocational vehicles for vending. He formed Specialty Trux to address that market, and ran it until his death.
Cox is survived by his mother, Virginia; brother Jerry, daughter Susanne and two grandchildren.
