Up to 45,000 low income residents of Singapore will be provided free meals under a new community initiative, according to a press release.
The Food Bank has teamed with the Philips Foundation, the charitable arm of a multinational conglomerate, to provide 45,000 "bank cards" that people can use at the machines over the next three months.
Each card will have 50 monthly credits that cannot be rolled over if not used, according to a report in The Straight TImes. Each meal costs three credits while every dry food item is two credits.
The foundation also installed a hot bento meal machine and two dry food machines. The dry food machine offers donated food from suppliers and individuals while the hot food machine has meals endorsed by the Singapore Heart Foundation.
