TORONTO -- Intrepid Travel challenged shoppers to spend their money on "experiences, not things," by placing its "Vacation Vending Machine" in Toronto's busiest shopping mall.
The travel agency's machine appeared in the Cadillac Fairview Eaton Centre here between Jan. 16 and Jan. 19 as part a nationwide campaign aimed at helping Canadians fulfill their 2018 travel resolutions and have a chance to win trips around the world. Adding to the fanfare was a live DJ, an authentic Thai tuk tuk and Moroccan poufs and tea.
Toronto shoppers were able to lock in their 2017 travel plans for just $1 using the machines. By using the machine, they also had the chance to win one of 12 Intrepid Travel trips, 60 Urban Adventures day tours and 2,000 vouchers for $100 off Intrepid Travel trips.
"Most people start the new year with big goals, but it's super easy to get distracted by the everyday things you can spend money on," said Leigh Barnes, regional director of Intrepid Travel for North America. "That's why we're trying to make it easy for travelers to do the things that really matter to them this year."
