Vending machine at Tokyo train station emits scent, plays projection with purchase

Last month a gourmet food and beverage zone called EATo LUMINE opened at Tokyo's Shinjuku Station. One of the highlights of EATo LUMINE is a vending machine called The Bench which offers an immersive experience with images and scents, according to a SoraNews 24 report.

The vending machine immerses customers within the mechanical world with the intention of making it feel like stepping inside a vending machine. EATo LUMINE staff told the news outlet that customers can take whatever they want from the vending machine's refrigerator or lockers and purchase it at the cash register, or they can use a touch panel and giant screen to buy things. The large touch panel and giant screen are designed to look like a giant vending machine.

When using the vending machine, a custom projection mapping paired with a scent that aligns with your purchase deploys in the space, giving the customer an immersive sensory experience.
