Wellfound Foods' expansion from wholesale food distribution into vending last year proved helpful when the coronavirus pandemic hammered the wholesale business, according to a Washington Business Journal report.
CEO Sarah Frimpong, who launched the business in 2013, has since raised $220,000 of a $450,000 fundraising to support her company's growth. The "smart fridges" the company has added as part of its vending expansion sell the same prepared foods she makes for her wholesale business — which has taken a major hit during the pandemic.
The Washington, D.C.-area company prepares snacks, fruit bowls, salads and sandwiches for both the wholesale and vending businesses.
The company placed four "smart fridges" in 2019, including a convention center, a two hospitals and a university.
