ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL -- AVS Cos. said it has hired Michelle Lopez, an experienced accountant, as the company's controller. She will be based at the equipment distributor's main office here, and will be involved in developing and administering its financial policies and procedures.
 
Prior to joining AVS, Lopez was a controller at Fixture Hardware Co., a manufacturer of retail fixtures, and Chicago POP.

"Michelle's experience as a controller will be an asset with the growth we have seen recently," said AVS vice-president and chief financial officer Jim McAllister. "She will be able to coordinate with our accounting team to ensure all facets of our financial department are running smoothly."
 
AVS Cos., founded in Chicago in 1971 by Frank Gumma Sr., was formerly known as American Vending Sales. Last year, AVS began an expansion program by acquiring several leading machine distributors in Minnesota, Texas and Wisconsin. Today, Vince Gumma, the founder's son, manages the company.
