Ron "Dr. Frog" Pauley |
Pauley began a teaching career at Bland County's Rocky Gap High School, became the assistant principal and was promoted to assistant superintendent of the county's school system. He retired from education in 2001.
Not suited for retirement, Pauley eventually went to work for Venco Business Solutions (Bland), an amusement machine operation and ATM supplier owned by close friend John Newberry.
"Ron got the opportunity to travel throughout the country, and abroad, making numerous friends wherever he went," Newberry said. "He also loved playing golf, and collecting pinball machines and slots. Ron will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He touched many people's lives in different ways."
He survived by his daughter, Jamie Rebecca Pauley (Radford, VA); one brother, Gary Pauley (Dublin, VA); and friends Rick Hull, Maynard Joyce, John Newberry, Tommy Dunn and Charles Puckett, among others.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ron Pauley Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Jamie Pauley, P.O. Box 1133, Wytheville, VA 24382.
