Velcrokid, a cafe that recently opened in Lewisville, Texas, combines a Japanese-style vending machine experience with an art gallery aesthetic, offering sweet treats and designer toys. The location features walls lined with vending machines stocked with snacks, drinks, ramen and artist-designed toys, according to a report by The Dallas Observer.
Owner Eric Bowman, formerly of Mill Street House, opened Velcrokid in early February, drawing inspiration from 24-hour vending machine cafes in Japan. He aimed to create a "beacon for the arts" and a community gathering space.
The establishment offers a variety of items, including specialty sweets from Japan and designer toys from various artists. "Back in high school, I used to rock the velcro shoes from Walmart," Bowman told the news outlet, explaining the origin of the name. "So I just adopted that name and took it on."
Customers can purchase items like Japanese roll cakes and coffee, as well as "blind box" designer toys.
