Aaryanna Nijjar-Simmonds, a Richmond-based artist, has launched an art vending machine in partnership with Scrap RVA to showcase the work of local creators, according to a WTVR report. The machine features art from 25 different artists, with prices ranging from $3 to $18, making it an affordable way for the community to engage with local art.

Nijjar-Simmonds believes the project benefits both artists and the community by making art more accessible. By setting a maximum price of $20 for all items, the vending machine ensures art is available to a wider audience. All proceeds go directly to the artists.

"When you make art more accessible, it does things for not just the artist but the entire community," Nijjar-Simmonds told the news outlet. "You're showing people that art does make a difference. You're showing younger kids that you can have a job as an artist, and that it is feasible to do big things and do things that are kind of off the cuff and not really what you would expect."

A second vending machine is set to open at the Gold Lion Community Cafe on August 29, and Nijjar-Simmonds is looking for a third location. The first vending machine is located at Scrap RVA, 322 W. Brookland Park Blvd.
