Tyson Foods, which closed plants in Waterloo, Iowa, and Logansport, Indiana last week to test workers for COVID-19, has warned that "millions of pounds of meat" will disappear from the supply chain as food processing plants close on account of the coronavirus pandemic, according to a CNN report.
John Tyson, board chairman, wrote that the food supply chain is breaking in a full page advertisement in The Washington Post, The New York Times and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, and warned that products will not be available in grocery stores. Tyson said millions of animals will depopulate because of the closures.
