Saturday, Oct. 24: Trev Gartner Beats Reigning 2014 Champion Skippy Tower
CHICAGO -- Trev Gartner is the winner of the 2015 Big Buck World Championship, which ended around 8:30 p.m., central time, at the Hard Rock Café here. Gartner is the first videogame athlete to win the Big Buck World Championship twice (2013 and 2015).
"Trev will be partying tonight with his $15,000 check, massive trophy and bragging rights, of course," said Jessica Petro, who heads up social media and public relations at Play Mechanix, the creator of the Big Buck Hunter coin-op franchise.
Gartner beat reigning 2014 champion Skippy Tower, who takes home $7,500 for second place. "He gave it a good shot, but couldn't beat Trev in the end," Petro said.
According to Petro, this year's Big Buck World Championship had more than 200,000 views on Twitch TV, a record number for the arcade gaming in eSports.
CHICAGO -- The year's biggest coin-op videogame competition kicked off yesterday in Chicago at the Hard Rock Cafe. Sara Erlandson of Beldenville, WI, placed first in last night's women's tournament; it was her fourth win. Men's virtual shooting continues today at 2 p.m. central time.
In 2011, Erlandson was crowned champion in the first-ever Ladies Tournament, winning the top prize of $2,000. Her takehome this year is $5,000.
