NEW YORK CITY -- TouchTunes said the latest version of its mobile app will ship in April. The new app allows users to be the DJ and take control of TouchTunes' jukeboxes in 65,000 bars, restaurants and other social hotspots in North America. Among its distinctive new features, according to TouchTunes, the jukebox app boasts a music-first design that users will find intuitive.
The TouchTunes app, originally launched in 2010, has now been through its third major redesign. The jukebox manufacturer says that two million people are active users of its app, making it the biggest "in-venue" streaming service, as well as one of the largest streaming services in general.
The latest TouchTunes app also improves usability for finding nearby jukebox locations, searching for music and earning rewards. Users can also import playlists from Spotify or iTunes.
"At TouchTunes, our focus is to empower people to take control of their music experience at tens of thousands of social venues," said chairman and chief executive Charles Goldstuck. "With mobile technology becoming core to our daily lives, the new TouchTunes app creates an interactive, one-of-a-kind social experience for every user and allows them to be the DJ at their favorite venues."
The new TouchTunes app was developed in collaboration with Work & Co, a Brooklyn, NY-based digital creative agency. The app puts music first by highlighting contextually relevant songs and artists, while making navigation and song discovery simple and easy. Its personalization features combine each user's play preferences with the venue's vibe to help users discover the music they have in common with each location. Not unlike the company's jukebox platform, the app gets smarter the more it's used, surfacing the most-played related songs, artists and genres.
Other key features of the app are:
» Smart check-in: Automatically checks in users at frequently visited locations.
» Playlists made easy: Users can import playlists from Spotify or iTunes and build a "favorites" playlist by liking songs and artists throughout the app experience.
» Venue staff messaging: Allows staff to program custom messages to appear within the app when a user checks in to their venue.
» Customer service: Improved in-app support.
The new TouchTunes' app will be available as a free download from the Apple app store and Google Play.
