Tomra R2, a reverse vending machine designed for a minimalist appearance, visual appeal, accessibility and discretion has launched and can accept over 100 empty drink containers at a time, according to a Packaging Europe report.

Tomra Sorting, a recycling solution, conducted market testing in German, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Danish and Dutch stores and concluded that a smaller footprint makes it more compatible with a wider range of retailers. The reverse vending machine has a large deposit area where consumers can pour their containers in, much like a waste bin, and then select from a variety of options for their deposit refund.

"Today's launch makes you rethink recycling and the reverse vending user experience," Jonas Døvik, product manager for multi-feed solutions at TOMRA Collection, told the news outlet.

"It brings benefit for all reverse vending stakeholders — with Tomra R2's convenience for both retailers and recyclers, digital vouchers for consumers and greater donation opportunities to contribute to the wider community."
