MALOLOS, Philippines -- Timezone has unveiled its carnival game concept at a mall site in this Manila suburb. Situated next to the main center, the Timezone Carnival occupies 200 sq. meters (2,153 sq. feet) of space. The decor creates a festive mood, with music and bunting surrounding the 15 large and 10 small games.
Timezone, which operates some 50 family entertainment centers in the Philippines, reported that carnival games always were a main attraction at the nation's traditional town fiestas. They fell from favor when "malling" became the primary entertainment activity for Filipinos. "To the surprise and delight of the customers, Timezone brought back the old feel of being in a town fiesta, with the carnival games in a mall setting," the company explained.
The Malolos opening introduced 25 new games that aim to challenge customers' different skills. Timezone Carnival creates a festive celebration and fun atmosphere loved by families, said Rafael Prats Jr., president of Timezone's Philippines business.
"We will open Timezone Carnival outlets both indoors and along outdoor piazza areas within a shopping mall environment," said Timezone Group chief executive Sonaal Chopra.
The popular phenomenon of "malling" plays an important role in Timezone's operational planning. "Malls are where Filipinos go to shop, eat and entertain themselves in a seamless blend of toddlers, kids, teens and adult family members relishing leisure time together," the company observed. Most of Timezone's outlets are strategically located in the Philippines' top malls.
Similarly, in the United States, newly renovated malls catering to Latino consumers are becoming entertainment and cultural destinations for that growing American demographic. | SEE STORY
