The movies aren’t going anywhere, assures Cineworld’s Greidinger

April 9, 2020

The coronavirus has dealt the world a setback, but it's a temporary situation, and Mooky Greidinger, CEO of Cineworld Group, which owns Regal Entertainment, wants everyone to know that movie theaters aren't going anywhere.

In an interview with Deadline, Greidinger said he is optimistic because being forced to stay at home has made consumers more appreciative of entertainment outside the home. He is also upbeat because he hasn't been forced to weather the pandemic alone. The studios have kept in touch with him and have offered their support. He expects the studios will have a full lineup of releases once the theaters are open.

Greidinger believes the cinemas will be open by the end of June and the first blockbuster release by early July.

For the time being, the company has stopped all new projects but is continuing with ongoing refurbishments.

Meanwhile, he said, governments worldwide are helping, and landlords are also becoming understanding and agreements are being made while cinemas as closed.
