Thai Police Hunt Suspects Responsible For Stickers Insulting To Royal Family

BANGKOK -- A Japanese company that sells stickers online and an unknown person (or persons) have run afoul of the Thailand's royal family.

According to local press reports, somebody in Thailand submitted sticker artwork to the company's online store that was less than kind to the royals, particularly Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who are brother and sister. Also allegedly ridiculed was a royal poodle named Air Chief Marshall Foo Foo.

Thailand has strict lèse-majesté laws, which makes insulting a member of the royal family an act of treason. If apprehended the perpetrator could get 30 years or more in prison.

While the Japanese sticker company Line does screen for content, it has denied knowingly insulting the royal family and has since pulled the cartoonish stickers from sale.

STICKY SITUATION:These stickers, purchased online, could earn someone more than 30 years in prison. Depictions deemed insulting to Thailand's royal family are illegal under that nation's laws.
