Texas Lottery vending machines now require ID scans

The Texas Lottery Commission has implemented a new policy requiring players to scan their government-issued photo ID before purchasing lottery tickets from self-service vending machines, according to a KXAN report. This change aims to prevent underage purchases and ensure compliance with state regulations.

The age verification process involves scanning the barcode on the back of the ID. While no personal data is collected or stored, players may encounter difficulties scanning older IDs or those with damaged barcodes.

Retailers are responsible for enforcing this policy and may face penalties for selling lottery tickets to minors.
