The Tennessee House of Representatives has withdrawn a bill to levy a 5-cent tax on non-alcoholic carbonated beverage containers, thanks to lobbying by the Tennessee Automatic Merchandisers Association, according to the National Automatic Merchandising Association's legislative email.

House Bill 2105 would have taxed sales to fund the construction, renovation or expansion of supermarkets in underserved communities.

Members of the national and state vending associations met with the bill's sponsor in February.
