SAN DIEGO -- Systech Corp. has joined the Open Interconnect Consortium, a group that promotes and studies the interoperability among platforms in the Internet of Things (IoT) market, which includes vending.
Systech brings network connectivity to IP and non-IP based systems for such applications as vending machines, ATMs, point-of-sale devices and remote electronic signage.
The OIC is focused on defining a framework based on industry standard technologies to wirelessly connect and intelligently manage the flow of information among a diverse population of personal computing and emerging IoT devices, regardless of form factor, operating system or service provider.
"Without broader global standards that allow economies of scale, the full potential of IoT cannot be realized," said Systech business development director Robert Lutz.
Some experts estimate that the IoT market will include more than 50 billion devices and "things" across a broad set of industry segments within a decade. These experts say interoperability across all verticals is essential to enable manufacturers to scale their solutions.
