A 30-year-old man has been charged in connection with an explosion that damaged a Cupcakes R Me vending machine Friday afternoon in a multi-tenant office building in Syracuse, New York, according to a Syacuse.com report. Authorities said Bay E. Rosario was arrested and charged with first-degree arson and several additional offenses. Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick confirmed the explosion was caused by a device placed inside the vending machine, and said the investigation remains ongoing.
The blast occurred around 1:42 p.m. in the lobby of a building on Oak Street in Syracuse, prompting a large emergency response that included police, firefighters and a bomb squad. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion that shook the building, and authorities evacuated the premises as a precaution. No injuries were reported, though the vending machine sustained significant damage.
The vending machine belonged to local business owner Kadesha Carter, who said Rosario was a former partner and alleged prior incidents of property damage following their separation. A 911 caller reported seeing a man place an object inside the machine before fleeing. In addition to arson, Rosario faces multiple charges, including weapons possession, fleeing police and tampering with evidence. He is being held without bond at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
