Swire Coca-Cola is implementing a sustainability initiative at its Draper, Utah facility by refurbishing used soda machines, fountains and coolers.

The company repairs and replaces parts, recycles unusable materials and repaints the equipment to extend its lifespan, according to a KSL TV report.

Remanufacturing a machine costs significantly less than purchasing a new one, which can average between $4,000 and $6,000, Equipment Fulfilment Center Manager Gilbert Abarca told the news outlet.

The refurbishing process at Swire Coca-Cola is reported to typically add seven years to the life of a vending machine, contributing to waste reduction.
