A new study indicates consuming coffee daily results in lower blood pressure, the most recent study to point to beneficial health effects for coffee, according to a DailyMail.com report.

Researchers at the University Hospital of Bologna and the University of Bologna studied 720 men and 783 women and compared blood pressure levels against coffee consumption habits.

220 participants did not drink coffee, 56 drank one cup per day, 726 consumed two cups, 99 drank three cups and 52 drank more than three cups.

The researchers found systolic blood pressure, the highest number, decreased as coffee consumption increased.

The volunteers self-reported their consumption habits.

The NHS has said more than four cups a day can increase blood pressure.

The recent study was initially reported in the journal Nutrients.
